Summer Solstice
Creative Intention Maps

Saturday, June 22 • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm • TAPPS ART CENTER Limited to 20 • $60

“One day you finally knew and began…  – Mary Oliver

Did you know that our brains are wired to measure
milestone dates as natural beginnings?

We will use this to harness the energy of the first full day of summer to breath life into our creative intentions. Through guided meditation, ritual, imagination, and hands-on map making, participants will create a portable pop-out map, that they are encouraged to further embellish at home as a living document.

This class is for creators and would-be creators in all disciplines/levels, or for those who simply want to create a more right-brain way of focusing on their personal or professional intentions.

For those able to sit on the floor, please bring a yoga mat, or a small blanket.

Fee $60 – includes fine grade paper for the map For registration visit this link. Click here for additional supply list. If you have questions you can PM on Facebook @kvanastudios, or email me at Kathryn@kathrynvanaernum.com

“I feel that I have a whole new perspective on what it means to be creative.” – P.B.

Neutral Territory
Meditative explorations with
watercolor and a neutral palette

January 26, 2019 • 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
with a break for lunch • Limited to 12

“I have eliminated one color after another, and what has remained is gray, gray, gray!”

— Alberto Giacomettii

When we think of watercolor, we often think of cheerful, bright pure color. But another world awaits as we venture into neutral territory. Are you afraid of mud when mixing color to get neutrals? Using limited palette, we will make vivacious greens, gorgeous golds, moody blues, bodacious browns, and more.

Join me for a meditation with watercolor at City Art and paint among the galleries. Working in a contemplative atmosphere we will discover the amazing range of color that can be acheived through the neutral palette. We will create a  simple book structure to contain our playful investigations.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to step outside of time without phones (we will bravely check them at the door) and our daily grind, bridging mindfulness with artistic process. This workshop is ideal for beginners or experienced artists who struggle with returning to a beginner’s mind.

Kathryn Van Aernum is a visual arts graduate of Naropa University – the birthplace of the modern mindfulness movement and the first educational institution in the country to bridge contemplative practice and academic rigor.

Kathryn’s artistry crosses many disciplines. She coaches professionals who have buried their creative soul in the daily grind. She helps them reclaim creative confidence so they can thrive at work and beyond!
Her work has appeared in juried competitions, group and solo exhibits in Key West, FL; Boulder, CO; Fort Collins, CO; Ann Arbor, MI; and Columbia, Spartanburg and Lake City, SC. and is in many private collections throughout the US.

Fee $155 – includes watercolor paper and other goodies. Visit Cityartonline.com to register.
